Praiseworthy Pages

Disclaimer: I did not finish reading this book.

I was so sad that this book had such foul language and so many graphic sexual descriptions. I read more than half of this book before I had to put it down. I couldn’t in good conscience continue to read, knowing that the sexual content would definitely become more intense as the book ended. Therefore, my review of the book itself is limited to what I actually read of it.

I would’ve loved this book so much if it hadn’t included so much sexual content. If I had to share this book with my sisters, I would first go through and cross out all of the swears and section off the inappropriate scenes, but the truth is, I wouldn’t feel comfortable or confident passing it over to them to read, as amazing as Emily Henry’s writing is.

Language: 4/10 (Frequent vulgarity).
Sex: 2.5/10 (Frequent sex scenes that gave too much detail and glorified immorality).
Violence and gore: 10/10 (No violence or gore included at all).

Plot: 8.5/10 (If it hadn’t been such a good story, I would’ve had a much easier time putting it down! I’m sad it was such a good book but so disappointing in language and content).
Characters: 8/10 (I loved how Henry took the two stereotypes of “typical evil girlfriend in a Hallmark Christmas movie” and “brooding Mr. Darcy” and turned them on their head. It was incredibly well-done, although the main character’s appearance changes in the beginning to make her look less like her character’s personality, and that rubbed me the wrong way a little bit).
Writing Style: 6/10 (Emily Henry’s writing talent is undeniably impressive, but this score takes both the inappropriate content and the amazing plot into account.)

Potential triggers: Marital discontent, loss of loved one.
I would not recommend this book to anyone searching for a clean read. However, I would recommend this book to anyone 18+ with a high tolerance for sexual content and swearing.
