“Peter and the Starcatchers” by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson

"Peter and the Starcatchers" book on blue fabric

Reader Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5 stars)

Have you ever wondered how Peter Pan became Peter Pan? How he was able to fly? How the Lost Boys found him, or how Neverland came to be? If these questions have crossed your mind (or if they are crossing it for the first time now), this book is for you!

Language: 10/10 (No foul language whatsoever).
Sex: 10/10 (No sexual content).
Violence and gore: 9/10 (Minimal violence. After all, there are pirates involved, so fighting is to be expected).

Plot: 7/10 (Such a clever backstory to the childhood figure we all know and love!)
Characters: 7/10 (As this book is written to appeal more to middle-grade audiences, the characters are sometimes unrealistic, but nonetheless endearing).
Writing Style: 7/10 (Again, this is written for a younger audience, so while it doesn’t necessarily capture my attention today, it certainly did when my mum would read this book to my brothers and I before bed as kids).

Genre: Middle-grade literature, fantasy fiction
Is this book part of a series? Yes.
Potential triggers: None.
I would recommend this book to any imaginative elementary-to-middle school reader with a love of magic and mystery.
