“No Country for Old Men” by Cormac McCarthy

Light shining on book

Reader Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ (3/5 stars)

What’s chilling about this novel is how possible it is that it could take place in real life. If you’re not a “Halloween ghosts and ghouls” type of person but still enjoy a thrill, this book is perfect for you. I know I couldn’t put it down.

Language: 8/10 (Mild/rare swearing).
Sex: 9/10 (Rare mentions of sex).
Violence and gore: 2/10 (Disturbingly detailed).

Plot: 8/10 (If you’re obsessed with true crime stories like I am, this story is going to pull you in and hold you captive up until the very last line).
Characters: 7/10 (Given the fact that the characters in this story are Vietnam War veterans, their casual approach to death and violence makes sense, but I was still taken aback by how colloquial these characters were about everything they were experiencing. They are still wonderful, multi-faceted characters with deep, hidden personalities that are fascinating to discover through the pages of this book).
Writing style: 8.5/10 (I have never read a book written in such an interesting way, and I loved it. Not only was the prose compelling, but the fact that it was written in such a unique way logistically was incredibly intriguing).

Genre: New adult literature, adult literature, realistic fiction
Potential triggers: Gun violence, gore.
Is this book part of a series? No.
I would recommend this book to anyone 18+.
