Reader Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5 stars)
This text was one of many required of me by my university classes. I would never have picked this book up otherwise, but I am incredibly grateful that I did! It has drastically altered the way I see the world, war, truth, and honesty. I not only have a renewed appreciation for those who sacrifice their lives to fight for my country, but also a renewed appreciation for what literature is capable of. I love this book just as much as I detest it, and those who have read it will understand.
Language: 3/10 (Swears often).
Sex: 9.5/10 (Sex is mentioned, but never more than just in passing).
Violence and gore: 2/10 (Disturbingly detailed but realistic depictions of war).
Plot: This book didn’t really have a plot. It’s more of a collection of stories and the memories of a war veteran.
Characters: 10/10 (Intensely realistic).
Writing Style: 9.5/10 (I have never read a book where the author overlapped fact and fiction so beautifully to the point where I could not tell where one ended and the other began. It was absolutely incredible).
Genre: Adult literature, realistic fiction, historical fiction
Potential triggers: Violence, gore, death of loved ones, people being killed, realistic depictions of war, etc.
Is this book part of a series? No.
I would recommend this book to people older than 18 (at the youngest) with a high tolerance for swearing.
