“Lightlark” by Alex Aster

Book on fabric with rose petals

Reader Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5 stars)

I cannot praise this book enough! I absolutely loved this novel; it won me over quickly with its incredible conflict, deeply beautiful imagery, and fabulously dynamic characters. Don’t walk, run to your nearest bookstore and buy this book! You will not regret it.

Language: 10/10 (No swearing at all).
Sex: 7/10 (Two instances where sex is alluded to or described).
Violence and gore: 6/10 (Not overly detailed or extensive).

Plot: 10/10 (Had me hooked from the very beginning. Aster is masterful at manipulating a reader’s emotions through drastically increasing conflict).
Characters: 10/10 (I am absolutely in love with Isla, Grim, Oro, and Azul. This obsession will never die.)
Writing style: 9.5/10 (The only reasons why I cannot rate Aster’s style a 10 out of 10 are because of some overuse of a couple descriptive words and one-sentence paragraphs. Those are the only reasons why! Everything else is absolutely stunning about her writing style).

Genre: New adult literature, fantasy
Potential triggers: Murder, betrayal, etc.
Is this book part of a series? Yes.
I would recommend this book to anyone 18+.
