Reader Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5 stars)
This story definitely surprised me with how heartwarming (and heartbreaking) it turned out to be. As I was reading it, a friend of mine (who never reads fiction) stopped me to tell me he’d read it and absolutely loved it. I can totally see why.
Language: 9.5/10 (Rare-to-minimal swearing).
Sex: 10/10 (No sexual content).
Violence and gore: 8.5/10 (Not detailed or extensive).
Plot: 8/10 (Like I said, it’s heartwarming and heartbreaking, unique and relatable).
Characters: 10/10 (I only have good things to say about the characters in this story. Each is remarkably multi-faceted, and I loved that every character acted their age regardless of the trauma life had left them with).
Writing style: 9/10 (Beautifully and purposefully written. I’m not usually a fan of reading stories written as though written by a young kid/early teenager, but this worked so well!)
Genre: Middle-grade literature, young adult literature, realistic fiction.
Potential triggers: Kidnapping, attempted murder, birth defects, death of loved one, etc.
Is this book part of a series? No.
I would recommend this book to anyone 12+.
