“The Word is Murder” by Anthony Horowitz

Book on ground

Reader Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5 stars)

If you know me, you know that two of my undying loves are England and true crime. This book does them both justice! I was hooked from the very beginning, and the unique way characters intermingled with reality kept me turning pages until the book was finished. I can’t wait to get my hands on another one of Horowitz’s novels.

Language: 6/10 (Occasional to frequent swearing).
Sex: 7/10 (References to sex and sexually explicit art).
Violence and gore: 4.5/10 (Depictions of homicide and violence. It is a murder mystery, after all).

Plot: 9/10 (The clues were all there from the very beginning, but you’d never realize it until the end! Absolutely magnificently done).
Characters: 9/10 (I absolutely loved how Horowitz took something from real life with real people, inserted himself into it plus a couple other fictional characters, and then made it feel like the most engaging true crime story I’ve ever read. Fascinating and unique technique).
Writing style: 9.5/10 (If the swearing wasn’t so intense, I would wholeheartedly give Horowitz’s style a 10/10).

Genre: Adult literature, realistic fiction, mystery
Potential triggers: Murder, car accident, blood/gore, mild homophobia, etc.
Is this book part of a series? No.
I would recommend this book to anyone 18+ with a high tolerance for foul language.
