“Uglies” by Scott Westerfeld

Book on grass

Reader Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5 stars)

The concept of this story fascinates me. The way our world is headed with perceptions of beauty and the way things are marketed, the world Westerfeld describes doesn’t necessarily seem too far from what the future could look like. A chilling thought, indeed.

Language: 10/10 (No vulgarity at all).
Sex: 10/10 (No sexual content).
Violence and gore: 9/10 (Minimal violence/gore).

Writing style: 7/10 (The writing style is definitely geared towards younger audiences, but it kept me interested from start to finish).

Genre: Young adult literature, dystopian fiction
Potential triggers: Body shaming, fire, loss of loved ones.
