You can tell by how beat-up my copy of this book is that this story is well-loved. Since childhood, this novel has earned a special place in my heart, and reading it again as an adult has made it all the more meaningful. 

Language: 9/10 (Mild/rare swearing).
Sex: 10/10 (No sexual content).
Violence and gore: 9.5/10 (Minimal violent language; no gore).

Plot: 8/10 (Heart-wrenchingly sweet; this story feels like a warm hug on a blustery cold day).
Characters: 10/10 (The characters are unique, realistic, believable, and relatable in almost every single way, regardless of the story’s plot or setting).
Writing style: 9/10 (Paterson has a way of making a story feel like reality in her beautiful imagery and true-to-character language).

Genre: Young adult literature, realistic fiction
Potential triggers: Loss of loved ones, bullying, familial disapproval, etc.
