Reader Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5 stars)
This book blew my mind. To be completely honest, I did not think I would like this book, but I was astounded by how deeply I fell in love with it. It won actual physical reactions from me—I sat up in my bed and screamed multiple times. A must-read for any sci-fi fan!
Language: 6/10 (Occasional middle school-severity swearing).
Sex: 8/10 (Distasteful humor in characters, nakedness).
Violence and gore: 4/10 (Regular violence and occasional depictions of disturbing gore).
Plot: 10/10 (Absolutely phenomenal plot that keeps you invested from start to finish).
Characters: 10/10 (Fabulously realistic—even though many characters are prodigious children, they don’t feel overly mature or too childish. The perfect balance. Well-rounded and incredibly dynamic).
Writing style: 9/10 (The prose was a little heavy every now and then, but for the most part, nothing about the writing style rubbed me the wrong way. I would totally read more by Card again!)
Genre: Young adult literature, science fiction
Potential triggers: Bullying, neglect, abuse, etc.
Is this book part of a series? Yes, but it can stand alone.
I would recommend this book to anyone 15+ with a high tolerance for foul language.
