“A Proper Scoundrel” by Esther Hatch

Book on brown background

Reader Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5 stars)

Calling all clean romance lovers out there! This book is begging for its place on your bookshelf. I loved how perfectly the two protagonists fit together without “completing” one another, something I don’t think we see too often in literature! Hatch knows what love looks like (and how to make a reader swoon)!

Language: 10/10 (No swearing).
Sex: 9.5/10 (Mentions only of “ruining” women, mostly by reputation).
Violence and gore: 9.5/10 (Mild violence, no gore).

Plot: 8/10 (The relationship of convenience trope is a classic, but this story uses it in uniquely by way of complex characters).
Characters: 8.5/10 (Realistic and relatable, with backstories and motives that clearly drive their every decision. However, they do not always act the way their age should dictate, perhaps?)
Writing style: 7/10 (I enjoyed it, though at times I found myself thinking scenes went on a bit longer than strictly necessary.)

Genre: Young Adult literature, new adult literature, historical (regency) fiction, closed-door romance
Potential triggers: Loss of loved ones, unhappy marriage.
Is this book part of a series? No.
I would recommend this book to anyone 14+.
