“Ninth House” by Leigh Bardugo

Disclaimer: I did not finish reading this book.

As captivating as the concepts were that this book demonstrated (and they were supremely interesting!), I unfortunately was unable to finish this novel due to its profanity and sexual content. However, the plot and writing style were incredible, and if anyone is looking for a seriously dark fantasy (and he or she doesn’t mind the R-rated content), this book will definitely be right up his or her alley!

Language: 2/10 (Swearing very often).
Sex: 2/10 (Detailed sexual allusions/glorification of immorality).
Violence and gore: 3/10 (Disturbingly graphic).

Plot: 6/10 (Of course, I didn’t get all the way through it, but the world building and plot so far—since I’m a murder mystery fanatic—was super fascinating. However, it wasn’t enough to warrant the vulgarity).
Characters: 9/10 (Darlington and Galaxy are really amazing characters!)
Writing style: 8/10 (If you cut out all of the swearing, the writing was gorgeous).

Genre: Adult literature, realistic fiction, fantasy
Potential triggers: Rape, murder, death, drug addiction, etc.
Is this book part of a series? Yes.
I would only recommend this book to adult readers, preferably 20+, with a high tolerance for language and sexual content.
