Reader Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ (3/5 stars)
Sarah M. Eden is one of my all-time favorite authors because of her unique ability to bring love to the pages of her stories with striking clarity, and it’s always clean. This book was no different. Sweet and proper, this novel reminds readers that even the most ordinary of us all deserves real love and friendship!
Language: 10/10 (No swearing).
Sex: 10/10 (No sexual content).
Violence and gore: 10/10 (No violence or gore).
Plot: 8/10 (I am a sucker for the “relationship of convenience” trope, and this story does it so well. The only downside is how easily the dilemmas were resolved in the end, although that doesn’t stop me from genuinely loving the story in its entirety.)
Characters: 9/10 (I loved how sweet and just “ordinary, everyday” people both Ellie and Newton are. It makes them relatable and realistic).
Writing style: 8/10 (I usually mark anything by Sarah Eden as 10/10, but I do admit that I was a bit turned off by how predictable the plot was, even though I adored the romance of it).
Genre: Young adult literature, adult literature, new adult literature, historical (regency) fiction, closed-door romance
Potential triggers: Verbal abuse, parental disapproval, family tensions, etc.
Is this book part of a series? Technically yes, because almost all of Eden’s books are connected, but also technically no, as they can all be read out of order.
I would recommend this book to anyone 10+.
