Reader Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5 stars
This book was such a fun, fascinating read! My little sisters are obsessed with this series, and after hearing so much about it, I had to try it for myself. It didn’t disappoint!
Having grown up feeling that the murder which occurred in her hometown years before had convicted the wrong man, a high school senior named Pippa digs a little deeper into the death of a popular high school girl.
Language: 5/10 (Occasional-frequent swearing).
Sex: 6/10 (Semi-frequent allusions to/mentions of sex).
Violence and gore: 7/10 (Not detailed or extensive).
Plot: 8.5/10 (Super well-done; kept me guessing from start to finish, even though, and I have to brag a little bit, I totally called it).
Characters: 10/10 (Ummmm, so Ravi has my heart. And also, why do I feel like Pippa is outrageously relatable? I could totally see myself in her shoes making the same decisions).
Writing style: 9.8/10 (Fun and unique storytelling! The only thing was that a couple of things that were mentioned in an off-hand way that made it clear to me that Jackson is English writing an American novel [she’s from London] distracted me a little bit, but I’m hyper-aware of that kind of thing).
Genre: Young adult literature, new adult literature, closed-door romance, mystery, realistic fiction
Potential triggers: loss of loved ones, drugs, sexual assault, death of animal, etc.
Is this book part of a series? Yes.
I would recommend this book to any true-crime-loving readers 16+, (especially those readers that aren’t opposed to high-school hallway language).
