Reader Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ (3/5 stars)
I had such a fun time reading this novel! McManus is a master at creating suspense, and even though I’m not sure if it’s good or bad that I never saw the end coming, I still enjoyed it and would recommend it to those who loved books like “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.”
Language: 5/10 (Middle to high school hallway-level language).
Sex: 7/10 (Occasional references to past sexual misconduct).
Violence and gore: 5/10 (PG action movie with a disturbing twist).
Plot: 8/10 (I never saw that ending coming, which, as an editor, I’m not certain is a good thing or a bad thing. Either way, I was glued to the book from start to finish. I pretty much read it all in one sitting! It’s definitely a book I’d read again. McManus has undeniable skill when it comes to weaving a mystery together).
Characters: 9/10 (I loved Ellery, Malcom, Ezra, Mia, and Nana so much. They were each so unique in such fun, relatable ways. Ellery and Malcom’s relationship was adorable, and I loved the relationship dynamic between Sadie and the twins).
Writing Style: 8/10 (Really fabulous writing, but the regular swearing threw me off).
Genre: Young adult literature, realistic fiction, mystery
Potential Triggers: Loss of loved ones, murder, kidnapping, hit-and-run, threats, etc.
Is this book part of a series? No.
I would recommend this book to readers with a high tolerance for language 16 years old or older.
