Reader Rating: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ (5/5 stars)
This series was one of my very favorites growing up! Not only is the art throughout the books just gorgeous, but the story is fascinating, the villain unique, and the characters delightfully individual. I mean, how can you hate on an old granny character who races cows and beats people up? How can you hate on a leaf bug named Ted or an evil army of furry monsters who crave quiche? It’s just not possible. These books will leave you with a smile on your face 100% of the time.
Language: 10/10 (No swearing at all).
Sex: 10/10 (No sexual content).
Violence and gore: 9.5/10 (Extremely rare / mild violence).
Plot: 8/10 (The plot of the story is intriguing, but as this graphic novel is just the first of a long series created in almost episodic installments, readers don’t get to see much of the plot in this book. Readers just get hints, which is fabulous and frustrating at the same time).
Characters: 8/10 (You can’t help but love the characters, as they’re all remarkably unique from one another, but none of them are particularly unique in the grand scheme of literature. It’s not a bad thing! There’s a reason why these types of characters are used in so many stories!)
Writing style: 8/10 (As it is a graphic novel, there is very little actual writing telling the story beyond dialogue, but what words do exist are great).
Genre: Graphic novel, fantasy, middle-grade literature, young adult literature
Potential triggers: Being lost, exile, etc.
Is this book part of a series? Yes!
I would recommend this series to anyone eight years old or older!
