Reader Rating: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ (5/5 stars)

To say I was hesitant to start a book that’s so long and that starts such a long series is an understatement. However, thanks to some gentle encouragement, I found myself with this book in my hands, reading it grudgingly.

And then, suddenly, I couldn’t put it down! I took a highlighter to its pages, catching beautiful imagery and sparkling prose that made me want to improve my own writing. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. A big thank-you to the friend of mine who shoved the book in my hands and pestered me until I actually decided to read it.

Language: 10/10 (No swearing at all).
Sex: 10/10 (No sexual content).
Violence and gore: 4/10 (Great violence, threats of violence, and a fair amount of gore).

Plot: 9/10 (It’s a really well-executed novel where mysteries slowly unfold into a resolution that leaves one eager for the next book in the series).
Characters: 8/10 (Each character is remarkably unique, realistic, and relatable in their own way. Their relationships with one another were the highlight of the novel, in my opinion. And, while some characters were more frustrating than others, there is something to be said about the fact that every reader will find themselves represented in the novel in one way or another).
Writing style: 9/10 (Jordan’s prose is lyrical without being overwhelming. I highlighted so many sentences that were just too beautiful to be ignored).

Genre: Fantasy, adult literature, new adult literature
Potential triggers: Death, being on the run, loss of loved ones, etc.
Is this book part of a series? Yes.
I would recommend this book to any reader 16+.
