How It Works
Step One
Once you’ve decided which services you would like us to provide, send us one-three consecutive, double-spaced pages of your manuscript that you think best captures the essence of your novel, along with a description of what level of editing you would like us to demonstrate for you.
Step Two
Upon receiving the small portion of your manuscript, our editor will provide a sample edit. This will allow us to provide you with a more accurate quote for our services, and it will allow you to decide whether or not our services are right for you.
Step Three
If the sample edit we provide meets your approval and you would like to proceed, our team will draw up a contract specific to your project’s unique needs and begin the editing process.

Frequently Asked Questions
In case you’re still on the fence.
What does a sample edit look like?
When you contact us through our website, we ask that you send us one-three pages of your manuscript along with a description of which level of editing you would like us to demonstrate. We will then take the pages you’ve provided, make edits and/or suggestions as requested, and then send those pages back to you with a quote based on the services you’ve asked for and how much effort we believe your manuscript will require to complete. Then, with that information, you decide whether or not you would like to use our services for your entire manuscript. If you would like to proceed, we will then draft up a contract and begin editing your manuscript according to your specifications.
How do I know which level of editing my manuscript needs?
If you feel that your manuscript would benefit from a professional’s set of eyes looking it over for plot holes, inconsistencies, and story structure vulnerabilities, your manuscript likely needs a developmental edit.
If your manuscript’s story is rock-solid, but you need a professional opinion on the language, tone, and syntax utilized throughout the novel, your manuscript likely needs line or copy editing.
If you are confident in both the strength of your manuscript’s story and its use of language, but you just need a professional to catch typos and grammar errors, then your manuscript likely only requires proofreading.
If you are still unsure which type of editing your manuscript needs, send us a sample! We would be happy to guide you to an understanding of which areas of your novel could use some polishing, free of charge.
How do you determine the price of your services?
We determine our prices based on three contributing factors:
- The average cost of services for freelance editors according to the EFA (Editorial Freelancers Association). Praiseworthy Pages provides professional-level service, therefore charging professional rates, but we strive to remain affordable for our clients. Thus, our prices generally fall within the ranges listed by the EFA.
- The level of editing the client requests. As different levels of editing require different skills and amounts of time committed, the cost of each service varies.
- The time and effort each individual project is likely to require. Just as every author’s story is unique, so is every author’s mastery over the English language. Manuscripts that require more intensive editing will require a greater investment of the editor’s time and effort, which dictates the cost of the overall project.
What is Closed-Door Romance?
According to R. Nassor, a writer for Book Riot, “the easiest way to define a closed door romance is a book that centers on a romantic relationship developing between a group of people and ending in an [happily ever after/happy for now] that has no on-page sex scenes.” In other words, a closed-door romance is a novel in which sexual content is not explicitly included.
