Drew Afualo rose to relatively recent (around 2021) TikTok fame for her videos exposing toxic masculinity and roasting misogynistic men on the internet. If you know me at all, I am all about female empowerment, so when I discovered her videos, I found them super entertaining and more than a little satisfying (despite the frequent obscenities she throws around as she calls people out for their bad behavior).
So, obviously, when I found out that she’d written a book (and that it was a bestseller–you go girl!), I had to give it a read. I borrowed the audiobook on Libby, and it turned out to be pretty much exactly what I expected. The book not only discussed why she calls people out the way that she does, but also how her personal history influenced her mindset and what she feels about the patriarchal society the world’s been set up to be. It was entertaining, and even though Afualo’s not the most captivating audiobook narrator, I enjoyed the book and thought it fairly well-written.

Writing style: 7/10 (Since I listened to the book rather than read a physical copy, I can only speak on the writing style as it sounds and not on how it translates to the page. That being said, I do think that the style left something to be desired, as it landed a little flat in some places, but other than that, the work kept me interested from beginning to end).
